Children's Program

Please note: The Children's Program is for gifted children aged 7 - 14, with a parent or guardian attending the regular conference.  Children must be registered by June 1 and attend the program in its entirety.

This summer the SENG Children's Program promises to delight both the children and their parents! Children will have the option of spending all of their time exploring unique local excursions, or participating in an interactive Fine Arts Festival that will culminate in an extraordinary musical presentation. On Friday night, all children will explore the continents of Africa and Australia at the Kansas City Zoo. Koalas and sea lions await!

Saturday morning the Excursion group (Option B) will be off to Union Station to enjoy the investigative wonders of Science City and then tour the historical Kansas City Railroad. A tour of Hallmark headquarters will include an opportunity to learn more about the history and creativity of this Kansas City based company as well as make cards and bows before the children head over to Kaleidoscope, where the children will indulge in more creative art activities.

Children in the Fine Arts Festival (Option A) will have opportunities to participate in theatrical experiences taking place in the conference hotel on Saturday. The activities will have the children singing, acting, dancing, and creating as they become immersed in the excitement of preparing a musical.

On Sunday morning, children in both groups receive guidance in examining their own learning styles, enjoy some fun and games with their new friends, and prepare for the musical that will be presented at brunch.

Share your talents, make new friends, explore new places and plan for a weekend of fun with children from around the country at the SENG Conference Children's Program in Kansas!

  • Children must have at least one parent or guardian registered for the adult portion of the conference.
  • Children's registration includes Friday dinner, Saturday lunch, and Sunday brunch (with the adults).
  • The adults' sessions are scheduled to begin just after and end just before the children's, to facilitate parents' picking up their children.
  • Because one of the goals of the SENG Children's Program is to allow children to interact with their age peers, only children ages 7 - 14 will be admitted.
  • Counselor/teacher to child ratio is 5 to 1 or better, providing for appropriate supervision and plenty of individual attention.
  • Because this is a non-academic program, there are no admission tests or requirements. Children gifted in any area, who will benefit from being with age-peers who are also gifted, are welcome.
