What should I know about the Conference Hotel Location? |
We know that our travelers will appreciate the convenience and beauty of the Orlando conference location. The Orlando Airport Marriott is only minutes from the Orlando airport, and the hotel offers free shuttle service to and from the airport. You’ll love the excellent service and amenities that is waiting for you on your arrival. Orlando is home to world-class theme parks, sports, dining and more. Truly, an Orlando conference offers a rich array of opportunities for all our guests.

| What should I prepare for a trip to Orlando? | The average temperature in Orlando in July is 92 degrees F. It is typically humid, with brief daily afternoon showers. The hotel is fully air-conditioned. You’ll want lightweight clothing, a sweater or light jacket, a rain poncho – and don’t forget your bathing suit and sunglasses! |

| Who should attend SENG Conference? | SENG Conference offers learning sessions and social opportunities that are appropriate for parents and grandparents, educators, and health professionals. This year a special strand offered by the Florida Association for the Gifted (FLAG) ensures information that is particularly relevant to Floridians! |
| Does the SENG Conference 2009 offer Pre-conference Workshops? | Although in past years our conference offered add-on-for-pay sessions on Friday morning, SENG decided to offer all Friday morning sessions at no additional charge – to better benefit our guests. |
| When does SENG Conference open? | Check in at the registration desk on Friday, July 17, as early as 7 AM. Our first sessions begin promptly at 9 AM, as do our Children’s Program and Teen Program. And don’t forget to arrive on Thursday to attend the “Dive-In Movie” event at the pool, sponsored for SENG guests by the Marriott Hotel. |
| Do the SENG Model Parent Group training sessions qualify me to be a facilitator? | YES! This year’s conference offers complete training. Note that all four SMPG training sessions during the conference must be attended in order to receive your SENG Facilitator Certificate. There is no additional charge for SMPG training at the SENG Conference! |
| Are there training opportunities for experienced SMPG facilitators? | YES! Please see the Program and Schedule page to learn about advanced training opportunities for experienced facilitators. |
| What meals are included with registration? | Your registration includes Friday lunch, Saturday lunch and dinner, and Sunday brunch! |
| Do you accept purchase orders? What if I need to submit a printed registration form with prices to my school? | We prefer check or credit card up-front payments, but can accept purchase orders from schools if need be. Final payments are due in full one month after SENG Conference unless alternate arrangements have been made in advance. Click here for a printable form to submit to your accounting department. |

| Is there still space in the program? | Yes! However, space is booked on a first come/first served basis. Due to the unique nature of this year’s children’s program, you must register in advance to reserve a spot in the program. |
| Is there provision for children who are too young to attend the Children’s Program? | SENG conference is easy for the whole family. While we do not have a program for children younger than age 7, you are invited to enjoy our special Children’s Lounge, where kids can play games and make new friends. (This is a great opportunity for moms and dads to get to know others with young children, too!) Children MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times to use this room. |
| What meals are included for the children and teens? | Friday lunch, Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner, and Sunday brunch are included for all Children and Teens registered in our programs. (Meals for younger children who are not enrolled in a SENG Program can be purchased at the Registration Desk for a nominal fee.) |
| Where will the children be located? | The drop-off and pick-up point will be in the hotel. Please check-in at the Children’s Program registration desk on Friday morning. More details will be provided to you there. Friday and Sunday the Children’s Program sessions take place in the hotel. On Saturday, the children will attend an exciting behind-the-scenes excursion to Disney’s Magic Kingdom. |
| What should I pack for my child? | Pack lightweight clothing and items to protect your child from the sun and rain for the Disney excursion. Pack rain ponchos instead of umbrellas for the park, and be sure to send sunblock – please apply it to your child in the morning before the excursion! Hats and sunglasses will be helpful. We recommend sneakers over open toed walking shoes. No flip flops will be permitted on the excursion. |
| What should I know about the HATS courses? | All students will be placed in two different classes on Friday and one class on Saturday. You may not select the particular classes, but SENG will make every effort to provided a balance of arts and science options and keep the size manageable for to allow for a maximum experience. |
| What else should I know about the Disney excursion? | Buses are air conditioned and equipped with bathrooms and DVD players. The ride takes about 45 minutes from the hotel to the park. Both breakfast and lunch are included, but if your child has special dietary needs, you will want to send your own food. At Disney, we will not be allowed to carry large coolers into the park. SENG will provide each participant with a lightweight string bag backpack and water bottles. We do recommend sending your child with money to purchase extra drinks. We will be walking around in the sun, but will have breaks in shady areas and in the air conditioned attractions. July is a busy time for theme parks – expect loud noises, large crowds and lots of stimulation! Children who do not wish to visit certain attractions will be allowed to wait for the group with one of our SENG chaperones. Adult chaperones cannot administer medicine to children. SENG will not be responsible for cell phones and other possessions brought by the children. SENG will provide all parents will a contact cell phone to the Children’s Program Director, who will be at the excursion. |
