About The Event
Hosts: Nebraska Association for the Gifted, SMPG Facilitator Training offered concurrently with NAG Conference 2020
Trainers: Carol Malueg and Joan Larson
SMPGs provide a safe, non-judgmental environment for parents to share the joys and challenges of raising gifted,
twice-exceptional, and/or talented children. Groups are led by trained SMPG Facilitators and are open to parents and caregivers. Your child does not need to be formally identified as gifted for you to attend an SMPG.
SENG Model Parent Groups (SMPGs) bring together 10-20 parents of gifted children to discuss topics like motivation, discipline, stress management, and peer relationships, to name just a few. SMPG facilitators are specially trained and certified by SENG to provide a nurturing and confidential atmosphere where parents are a rich resource for each other. SMPGs help
parents and caregivers of gifted children find and grow their community of like-minded peers. SMPG workshops meet weekly for 6-10 weeks and are structured around A Parent’s Guide to Gifted Children, by James T. Webb, Janet L. Gore, Edward Amend, and Arlene DeVries.
