About The Event
This SMPG Training will take place on Saturday, April 23rd (9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. CDT) and Sunday, April 24th (9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. CDT). The training will be conducted entirely through Zoom.
SENG Model Parent Groups (SMPG) are 6 to 10 week guided discussion groups which provide a safe and supportive environment for parents and caregivers to freely discuss their child’s development and their own parenting challenges. Group participants connect with like-minded parents and caregivers, increase their understanding of their child’s unique needs, learn strategies for successful parenting, and expand their resources and community. SMPG Facilitators are sensitive, caring individuals who nurture, support and guide parents and caregivers through facilitated discussion groups. In this two-day training, participants will learn techniques and strategies developed and adapted specifically for SMPG.
The SMPG Facilitator Training Team has adapted our SMPG Facilitator Training to be completely online, due to COVID-19. We know that families need your support right now, and one way we can help you in your efforts is to make this training available during these difficult times.
This online training provides for certification to facilitate IN-PERSON SMPG sessions. This is the base layer of training required for all SMPG Facilitators. Although some techniques and strategies are transferrable to the Online SMPG model, an additional level of training and certification is required to run online SMPGs. To facilitate ONLINE SMPG sessions, trained Facilitators will also need to complete the additional SMPG: C.H.A.N.G.E. training.
These accommodations for online training are being provided due to the unique circumstances we are experiencing with the COVID-19 pandemic. In non-pandemic times, SENG’s practice is to require an SMPG Facilitator to lead a minimum of 5 in-person groups before SMPG Facilitators are eligible for the Online SMPG Facilitator certification. Upon resumption of our regular training, SMPG facilitators will again be required to lead a minimum of 5 in-person groups before being eligible for Online SMPG Facilitator certification. If you have any questions about these requirements, please contact us at Trent.Cash@Sengifted.org.

Facilitators must complete both days of the training at a satisfactory level to receive the certification. Decisions regarding satisfactory completion are made at the discretion of the trainer(s). Certification will be awarded to attendees who complete all components of the training and, additionally, demonstrate respect for and competence in the SENG Facilitation Model. SMPG trainers’ evaluations may be reviewed for approval by the SENG Board of Directors. Participation fee is non-refundable.
